West Lothian

More about West Lothian

The County of West Lothian (or Linlithgowshire as it was called until 1921) is a great treasure trove of a museum with masses of things to see and do. There is something to cater for everyone’s taste in this County of natural beauty and just soaking up the atmosphere around the fringe festival is one the nicer things to do in the summer months.

For a fun-packed day of discovery for the whole family, the local heritage really does come to life at the Almond Valley Heritage Centre. On the banks of the river Almond the 200-year-old mill machinery is still turned by the river and traditional livestock still bleat and moo in the grounds. The fun doesn’t end there… this really is the perfect place to come and relax or to let off some steam.

Halfway between Edinburgh and Stirling, beautifully set in its own park beside Linlithgow Loch can be found the magnificent ruins of the Royal Palace of Linlithgow. Best know as the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots, the palace is open all year to the public and is protected under the care of Historic Scotland.
