Tourist attractions in Newport
Since 1888 Newport Museum and Art Gallery has been collecting evidence of Newport’s history, culture and environment. The history of the people who lived in this area is traced from the earliest evidence 250,000 years ago through to the twentieth century, and include the Beaker people, the Silures, the Romans, the Vikings and the Normans. Admission is free.
The centre is open Mon-Thurs 9.30am – 17.00pm
Fri – 9.30am – 16.30pm
Sat – 9.30am – 16.00pm

Newport Transporter Bridge was 100 years old on September 12th 2006 and a special exhibition was held at Newport Museum & Art Gallery to mark the occasion. The bridge is owned and operated by Newport City Council and forms part of the local highways network.
Set in a beautiful 90 acre park, Tredegar House is one of the best examples of a 17th century Charles II mansion in Britain. The earliest surviving part of the building dates back to the early 1500’s. Visitors can discover what life was like for those who lived above and below stairs by touring the impressive staterooms and the intriguing servants’ quarters.
