Home of the super league team ‘The Giants’ formally known as Fartown, Huddersfield stands proud of its Rugby League roots and hosts The Rugby League Hall of Fame which can be found at the George Hotel in the centre of town. The grade two listed building is know as the birthplace of rugby league .

The large industrial town in the Kirklees district of West Yorkshire Pennines became known as ‘Bronte Country’, as this area that straddles the Pennines became the inspiration for the classic works of the Bronte sisters, Charlotte, Emily and Anne. One visit to Huddersfield and it becomes obvious why this would be the case as you gaze upon the magnificent hillsides and architecture from the 18th century its difficult to be anything other than inspired.

Perched almost 1000 ft above sea level on a steep hill to the south of the town is Castle Hill and Victoria Tower completed in 1899, this gem was build to mark the 60th anniversary of Queen Victoria’s reign. Braving the winds is a small feat to witness the spectacular views over the Holme Valley and down Holmfirth, famous as the home of classic television series Last of the Summer Wine. To the east of Huddersfield Britain’s tallest free standing structure can be seen, the concrete communications tower famously known as Emley Moore transmitter.

The UK’s largest festival specifically dedicated to contemporary and experimental music is hosted by Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival. Making superb use of venues such as the Lawrence Batley theatre and the Town Hall, for those with more main stream tastes, larger gigs are hosted at the former know McAlpine Stadium now Galpharm Stadium.
