Bury is a truly unique town to the north of Manchester it is the largest settlement in the Greater Manchester Borough of Bury. This town first made its mark in the industrial revolution as a mill town focusing its energies on textiles so much so that in 1733 Bury’s John Kay through a development in weaving invented the flying shuttle.

Bury has also produce many names in the political world with Sir Robert Peel the British Prime Minister in the 1800’s and most recently Cherie Blair the wife of course of Labor leader Tony Blair. The memorial that is Peels town still stands in prompt position 1100ft above sea level, magnificently on the Harcles Hill locally known as ‘Holcombe Hill’ above the village where it takes its name.

While in the area you really should visit Bury’s world famous market, which has been on the same site for almost 600 years. Originally licensed to trade in 1444 the large market hall with a variety of stalls and still attracts visitors from far and wide. This is the ideal place to pick up some of the nationally famed Black Pudding often seen as ‘Bury Black Pudding’ after its hometown.

The Met holds two theatre spaces and a café bar and is renowned for hosting shows that brought comics such as Steve Coogan and Eddy Izzard to fame. It is still not uncommon to see the stars of tomorrow performing here today!
