Renowned for it’s position at the heart of the South Yorkshire coalfield, Barnsley can trace it’s history back to the Domesday Book. With a market granted a Charter in 1249, and the nationally important Priory at Monk Bretton, Barnsley is a town steeped in history. Yet in spite of it’s industrial heritage, Barnsley is largely rural, with picturesque villages nestling amongst rolling hills beneath the stark beauty of the Pennines. Modern Barnsley is a thriving community with many attractions including a vibrant nightscene. The people are warm and welcoming with a wonderful dry sense of humour. This is a marvellous place to live, and a great place to visit.
