The Southampton Arms, in the lovely rural setting of the West End area of Southampton, has been transformed into one of the best pubs with restaurants in the area since being taken over by the friendly and welcoming landlady Martina Reeves in mid 2011.
Although this lovely pub already had a good reputation for its food, fine wines and real ales, Martina, (who offers lovely, Southern Irish hospitality), and her chef, Jamie Holmes, continually refresh their menu to include seasonal dishes. Thus ensures that each visit to The Southampton Arms will be a memorable and delightful experience.
The pub has a separate, comfortable area where customers can sit and simply relax with a drink from the well stocked bar, offering a fine selection of real ales, wines, spirits and soft drinks. In addition, if you are feeling peckish, you can either book a table in the restaurant or enjoy some food selected from the comprehensive bar menu, which includes favourites such as sandwiches, baguettes, ploughman’s and jacket potatoes, as well as a selection of main meals and salads – a favourite being the chicken breast & chirizo sausage ranchero.
The restaurant, with seating for up to 60 people, provides a calm and relaxed atmosphere where diners can sit and enjoy their meal. Open for both lunch and dinner, serving all the traditional home cooked dishes you would expect, including a selection of fish, meat, poultry and vegetarian dishes. In addition, there is a daily specials board which regularly includes favourite seasonal dishes, as well as a selection of hot and cold desserts and ices to choose from. Passionate about food, Jamie Holmes, an experienced chef who has worked in some of the area’s best known restaurants and hotels, brings a modern twist to some classic dishes and his signature dishes include the thoroughly recommended slow cooked shoulder of lamb. All meals are freshly prepared to order and they pride themselves in using only locally sourced, fresh ingredients whenever possible. To complement your meal, a fine selection of wines is on offer and why not treat yourself by finishing your meal with one of the speciality coffees? On Sundays, their well renowned Sunday lunches are served, with a mouth watering selection of roast meats and locally sourced fresh seasonal vegetables. The Southampton Arms is also a child friendly pub and is the ideal place for the whole family to visit, relax and enjoy a meal. A children’s menu is available every day. Reservations are recommended, especially at weekends.
Currently, The Southampton Arms are offering Senior Citizens’ lunch time specials every Monday to Thursday:-
As well as the separate bar and restaurant areas, they also boast a well kept, large beer garden where, in the summer months, you can enjoy a drink in the pleasant surroundings, let the children play in the specially provided play area and even dine ‘al fresco’.
So why not visit and enjoy a drink and a meal in this fine, traditional country pub and restaurant which is warm, friendly and welcoming to all, including children and dogs!
The Southampton Arms is proud to support the charity ‘Help for Heros’ and regularly holds fund raising events for this and other very noble causes.
For those who enjoy quizzes, there is a quiz night on the first Monday of every month, with all proceeds going to a local charity. In addition, Sunday is raffle day - with a meat draw at lunchtime and the draw for ‘chase the joker’ at 4pm, where really large cash prizes can be won.
Live music events are also regularly held, usually every 4-6 weeks, featuring local artists. Please check the pub’s facebook page for details.
In addition, they are also home to the Southampton Arms Shooting Society (which meets every Sunday morning to take part in a local clay pigeon shooting event), and the Southampton Arms Golf Society. For more details on either of these societies please contact the pub.
