Since opening in 1992, Nature's World has evolved into a thriving visitor attraction, training centre and educational facility for the whole of the local and wider community. At Nature's World we aim to provide you with more than just a visit to the uk's pioneering eco-experience, our plan is to provide you with information, education, ideas and an inspiration for looking after the environment.
Exhibits and features for everyone to enjoy - These include new informative signage, family trails, solar powered talking posts, educational play parks, a giant bank-side slide, an interactive sustainability challenge, 2020 future world, the race to recycle and much much more!
Our Hydroponicum is currently full with all kinds of Mediterranean and tropical plants, including cacti and banana trees. We also have a small pond full of terrapins, and are looking to start growing our own produce to sell at our monthly Farmers' Market.
Our adventure playground is a real hit with the children. With a rope slide, Swing Bridge, monkey bars and a whole lot more, children of all ages can play together in this safe and secure environment.
Miniature River Tees
This unique 400 meter long working model of the River Tees has been created from scratch from a good idea and a flat, boggy field! Thousands of Lorry loads of clay and sub soil where imported back in 1992 to create Upper Teesdale. The model continues to be one of the biggest attractions here at Nature's World, and with some of it's bridges big enough to cross, it's always a big hit with the kids.
Below are a handful of examples of our 'Demonstration Gardens'. We have many different varieties of gardens here at Nature's World, showing you the amazing things which can be done with a small amount of space and a good imagination.
• The White Garden
• Japanese Garden
• Backyard Garden
• Dig for Victory Garden
• Climate Change Garden
