Fitzell-Roberts Dance School is a long established dancing school which has built a formidable reputation over the years, not only for the quality of the teachers but also for the friendly, family atmosphere they create, as well as treating everyone as an individual. They have long recognised that both children and adults learn and develop much more in a safe, enjoyable and supportive environment.
As a theatre dance school, Fitzell-Roberts is the ideal establishment for those either wishing to develop their dancing skills to a professional level or those wanting to dance just for fun and relaxation. Many past students have gone on to enjoy a professional career, as a performer or teacher, including Lizzie Gough – who was recently the runner up on the BBC1 series ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ and is currently a judge on the Alesha's Street Stars BBC programme.
This dance school is proud to be an approved centre for the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD); in fact they are an examination centre for the South of England. Therefore, dance classes follow the ISTD syllabus from the basic level through to Fellowship. Classes include:-
Imperial Classical Ballet – promotes the English classical style of ballet and addresses the changing needs of today’s ballet dancers.
Modern – a rhythmic dance style often seen in musical productions, using travelling steps, high kicks, leaps and turns.
Jazz – similar to modern in that it is high energy and used in musical productions - covering different dance styles.
Tap – where dancers use their feet to strike the floor, beating out different rhythms.
National – this covers a wide range of traditional European Folk dance including Scottish, English, Finnish, Danish etc.
Classical Greek – originating from Ancient Greece, this dance style is based on the natural movement of the body.
Hip-Hop – this modern dance style, derived from Breakdance, uses athletic steps and is known for its use of a streetwise attitude and precise movements.
Drama – these classes are strictly for fun and recreation and are non-syllabus.
In addition, the students have the opportunity to take part in a number of events and productions throughout the year, including pantomimes, cabarets, shows, end of year performances and local fêtes.
With their fully qualified teachers (who are all CRB checked), Fitzell-Roberts are fully committed to providing the best possible training for all inspiring dancers.
In addition, they are also a popular venue for children’s parties where they often hold ‘themed’ ballerina parties – please contact them to enquire about the available packages.
Open daily, with classes available during the day, evenings and weekends, please contact the school for further details.
