Education for the Under-Fives


Flatts Nursery School is under the management of Kirklees Early Years Service, a department of Kirklees Metropolitan Council. Education for the Under-Fives is provided, free of charge, on a sessional basis. Children attend a specified session, either morning or afternoon, on five days of the week. Morning session begins at 8.55 am and ends at 11.25 am. Afternoon session begins at 12.55 pm and ends at 3.25 pm. The organisation of the school is based on a child-centred, integrated, self-managing approach to education. Resources are freely available in order that children may make choices about their activity thus enabling them to become independent, autonomous learners. The adult's role in nursery is to:-Plan the activities to promote effective language growth and development. Interact with children in order to enable them to achieve. Assess children's development, their skills, strengths and weaknesses. Develop children's personality and confidence. Individual records of achievement are kept by group leaders and are freely available to parents / carers. A summative record will be sent to the child's Reception class teacher.
